Miss Venezuela is Miss Universe

Why is Miss Venezuela Miss Universe and not Miss USA.  Crystal Stewart of Texas was in the top 10 but tripped on the train of her evening gown as she made her entrance. This is the second year in a row, Miss USA has tripped during the evening gown competition at the Miss Universe competition.

During the 2007 Miss Universe contest in Mexico City, Miss USA Rachel Smith also fell during the evening gown competition and became a star on You Tube.

The shortest contestant in this year’s show is Miss El Salvador, a petite 5-foot-3. The oddest was tuxedoed Springer, who made a grand entrance on a motorbike — the vehicle of choice in Vietnam where the streets are filled with millions of the speeding two-wheelers.

Genetic Testing

If I had a genetic predisposition to a deadly illness like cancer or heart disease I would want to know! I do know these test are not like a crystal ball but they do give you a probability percentage of the likelihood of this happening in your life time. If you know you are at 85% at risk to become obese, wouldn’t you want to know so you can take action now. I did some research on genetic testing and there are four types of test. Prenatal testing, Gene Sequencing, SNP Testing and Genome Sequencing. I am interested in SNP Testing for myself. The test costs around 2500 and is not covered by insurance.

TEST DETAILS: SNPs or single nucleotide polymorphisms, are tiny sections of DNA typically used to identify genetic variation across populations. Scientists embed a clients DNA into a small silicon chip containing reference DNA from both healthy and ill individuals. If the client’s genetic info matches up with the DNA common among people afflicted by certain diseases, the scientist can give a person an idea of how likely it is that they will contract those diseases. The results remain largely inconclusive. If you share a strand of diabetes’s related DNA with a person who actually has it, the chances of them getting it are certainly elevated, but not a hundred percent. The same would be true for this person’s child, if the child and parent shared the same strand, the child is at an elevated risk as well.

Linda Evangelista as the Duchess of Windsor

The July issue of Vogue Italia features Linda Evangelista posing as the Duchess of Windsor, photographed by Steven Meisel. You know who she is. She famous for saying, “You can never be too rich or too thin.” My favorite thing she said is this> “Fill what’s empty, empty what’s full, and scratch where it itches.” Other quotes are “I’m nothing to look at, so the only thing I can do is dress better than anyone else.” and “All my friends know that I’d rather shop than eat.”
